Viliam Pavliak, PhD is expert in a vaccine development with over 27 years of experience in industrial and academic vaccine research and development, encompassing the rationale design of glycoconjugate and peptide conjugate vaccine platforms for human diseases and the development of analytical control strategies for subunit vaccines (proteins, glycoproteins, glycoconjugates, peptide and small molecule conjugates), multi-component vaccine compositions (composed of proteins, conjugates and adjuvants), process intermediates and process introduced residuals. Dr. Pavliak is currently CEO of Pavliak BioConsulting LLC which provides strategic and technical chemistry, manufacturing and controls (CMC) and product development (PD) consulting service to clients in developed and developing world. Prior to starting consulting company he served as the Head of Vaccine Development at International Vaccine Institute (IVI), a non-profit international organization which is focused on development of vaccines for world’s developing nations. Prior to IVI, Dr. Pavliak was at Pfizer Worldwide Vaccine Research and Development where he directed the characterization of subunit vaccines and the development of analytical assays for release of conjugate vaccines and intermediates for several vaccine programs including Prevenar 13 and S. aureus. At Wyeth Vaccine Research, he led preclinical development of S. aureus vaccine, N. meningitidis LOS vaccine and several other programs that employed conjugation of polysaccharide or peptide to protein carrier. At Nabi and Univax Biologics Inc., he managed preclinical development of several bacterial vaccines and immunomodulators. Dr. Pavliak did his postdoctoral research at the National Research Council, Institute of Biological Sciences in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada with Dr. Harold Jennings and at the NIDDK-Section of Carbohydrates at the US National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland with Dr. Neil Glaudemans. Dr. Pavliak is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of GlycoNet (Canadian Glycomics Network, Alberta, Canada). He has a Ph.D and M.Sc. in Biochemistry from the Slovak Technical University, Bratislava, Slovakia.
